Our Team
Mark Barber, President
Mark is a lifelong resident of the Ithaca area, and grew up on a dairy farm in Danby. Mark has nearly 3 decades of construction experience at Sunny Brook Builders doing all phases from excavation and welding to finish trim and painting, Mark can do anything. Mark uses not only his production experience, but his strong people skills to support and mentor our carpenters and maintain the high level of customer service we are known for. Mark is our Production Manager and the President of Sunny Brook Builders. In January 2009, Mark was awarded a Certified Graduate Remodeler Designation from the National Association Of Home Builders. Mark is certified in EPA lead safe work practices and OSHA 10 safety protocols.
Dean Shea, Vice President
Dean received his Bachelor’s Degree in business from SUNY Fredonia. Dean learned the building trade in his youth working with his father remodeling and maintaining his families apartment buildings and home. Dean also has extensive experience in the plumbing and heating field where he worked as a project coordinator. Dean joined the Sunny Brook Builders team in 1999 and is the Administrator and Vice President of Sunny Brook Builders. He currently serves as a Board Member and a Past President of the Tompkins Cortland Home Builders and Remodelers Association. Dean served the Tompkins Cortland Habitat for Humanity as past Board Member, Past President, former construction committee member, directly oversaw construction of several Habitat projects and remains a resource and active supporter. Dean served on the town of Lansing Zoning Board of Appeals and is currently a member of the town Planning Board. In January 2004, Dean was awarded a Certified Graduate Remodeler Designation, in May 2009, Dean was awarded a Certified Green Professional Designation and in September 2011 Dean Was awarded a Certified Aging in Place Specialist Designation from the National Association Of Home Builders. Dean is a Building Performance Institute trained and formerly a Certified Building Analyst and Envelope Professional and is certified in OSHA 10 safety protocols.
Dan Ostdiek, Lead Carpenter
Dan is a lead carpenter and is able to do it all from rot repair to laying tile. Dan has over 2 decades of experience in new construction, remodeling and painting and has been with Sunny Brook Builders for more than a decade. On repair projects Dan knows how to take it apart and restore it correctly using flashing details that will last, he can make adjustments so things work smoothly and he is skilled at putting in new windows, moldings and whatever finishes you desire to upgrade and update your space. Dan is certified in EPA lead safe work practices and OSHA 10 safety protocols.
Chad Whible, Lead Carpenter
Chad is a lead carpenter with extensive experience in framing, decks, pole barns, roofing, flashing systems, window and door installation, siding and exterior and interior trim finishes. Chad interacted with the Sunny Brook crews on multiple jobs over several years as a subcontractor before coming on board as an employee. Chad has been with us for over a decade and worked his way from a carpenter position to a lead carpenter. Chad is certified in EPA RRP and OSHA 10 safety protocols.
James Bowman, Lead Carpenter
James is a lead carpenter and able to take on any project. He worked his way up from the carpenter to the lead carpenter position and has been with us for over a decade. His skills include extensive experience in staining, painting and interior finishing as well as flooring installation, tile, cabinetry installation, flashing systems, window and door installation, siding, decks, and framing. James is certified in EPA RRP and OSHA 10 Safety protocols.
